Official Newsletter for the
Dallas Group Psychotherapy Society
Fall 2004
Presidents Chair
By Alice Tawwater Frazier
So quickly it is fall, that time of year for wonderful mornings of taking to local trails with your friends and family. It is also the time for many professional opportunities, both informative and just plain fun.
1) The DGPS Halloween party/ fundraise was fun with good food, fun, friends and a silent auction. Thanks to all who worked to make it such a successful, enjoyable evening.
2) The Southwest Group Institute was held in Dallas this October 21-23 at the Double Tree Hotel Dallas Campbell Center. The title of the Institute was: In the Spirit of the Group: Spirituality and Group Psychotherapy. The role of spirituality within a psychological paradigm is a new and exciting development in our field. This was a timely Institute and DGPS has reason to be especially proud as several of our members are on the SWGP faculty. For more information contact: Dr Robin Binning at 972. 386-8599.
3) And if that isnt enough, Mary Goulding is presenting this fall at the San Antonio Group Psychotherapy Society Workshop. For more information contact Dorothy Le Pere at 210. 821-5980 or email her at socialdot1@msn.com.
4) DGPS had a great program Friday November 12th, titled: An Introduction to Energy Therapies: From Psychology to Physics. Our presenters were Kath Koeppen, James and Lana Self and Hilary Shaw. This was our last program of 2004 and I would like to thank our presenters as well as Becky Pruessner and Hilary Shaw for giving us an outstanding year of programs. THANK YOU BECKY! THANK YOU HILARY!
Elsewhere in DGPS we are planning our next Board meeting set for November 20th, and the Aids/Arms project is set to resume in November as well. Laura Warner has agreed to submit DGPS activities to the Affiliate Column of the AGPA Circle. Thank you Laura. It will be great to see us back in the national news.
And last, but certainly not least, as they say, I would like to welcome our new student members:
Kelleigh Head
James Wrightsman
Kim Rodgers
Donna Kirby
Criquette Tasin
Welcome back as well to returning member Dr. Ed Goodman. We are happy to welcome all of you to membership in DGPS and look forward to the enrichment you will bring to us both personally and professionally.
Alice

One or two therapists will lead the parent support groups on the first three Saturdays of each month. If you are interested in volunteering to lead or co-lead a group for a month, contact Marti Kranzberg, Ph.D. at 214-528-1815 or e-mail her at mkr950@airmail.net.
Our annual Halloween party fundraiser was held on Saturday, OCTOBER 30TH, 7:00 p.m. at Betty Gouges house. The night was filled with fun, food, frivolity, a costume contest, entertainment, auctions (loud and silent), spirits (the kind you drink and the kind that haunt you), tricks and more tricks (no, not that kind).
We are very grateful to John Gladfelter, Tess Castleman and Kath Koeppen who shared their skills in the reading of tea leaves and tarot cards and to Lorayne Boger who provided colorful and creative face painting. We enjoyed Bill Jones and his jazz trio, The Men in Black, who were fantastic and made us all want to dance! Alice and Charles Frazier and James and Lana Self put on a beautiful spread of delicious food and beverages. And the setting for this party was perfectthe beautiful home of Betty Gouge and her husband and good sport, Frank Wolfenbarger! Thank you!
The Silent Auction was a great success with over 40 donations of art, goods and services. What fun to watch our usually poised and sedate members and party attendees get into lively bidding wars to get their prizes! Our members, their friends, families and generous donors provided a wonderful array of auction items. Thank you all!
Once again Rhonda Boatright and Marsha Caraway danced away with first prize for their costumes as the Blues Brothers complete with a dance routine. The partygoers exhibited daring creativity dressed as beatniks, faeries, wizards, witches, historical characters (Kathie Higgins won 2nd prize for her wonderful vintage costume) as well as fictional characters, gorillas, apes, bank robbers, a headhunter (complete with a blond head and spear), pirates, and gypsies. Martha Stewart (or someone bearing a remarkable resemblance to her) was there in her orange prison jumpsuit and ankle/wrists chains accompanied by a prison official.
The evenings entertainment included solos and poetry readings by our talented guests and our hostess.
Our Treasurer, Gail Ardman, dressed as a 1940s nightclub singer, did a great job managing the collection of donations and membership renewals. She reported the evening was successful in raising a substantial amount of money for our training program. Thanks, Gail for your hard work and for your lovely song! And thank you Ginny and Bruce Conlon and Peter and Lorayne Boger for greeting and helping with tickets.
Ginny and Bruce Conlon, Laura Warner and Betty Gouge did a great job setting up and arranging the silent auction items and tables. And Betty Gouge, Carol Blanchard and Shari Porter Jung worked to create the festive Halloween atmosphere we all enjoyed. Thank you all. The house looked great!
Congratulations to the 2004 DGPS Fundraiser Party Committee, Betty Gouge, Laura Warner and Cynthia Lovell for a fun and successful event.
